Swords in the Big City
The Dorjin have a legend that their race was created in the heart of the sun by a malicious archfiend to be his personal slave race but they were freed from their fiery prison by Brannsar and lead to the baking deserts of the South. The Dorjin have lived in the deep deserts of the southern lands in isolation from the other races until relatively recently. Cooling temperatures across the world have forced them to migrate north with the animals they herd.
Physical Description: Dorjin are very lean humanoids with red skin and dark brown or black hair. Two bone-coloured horns grow on their foreheads, which are extensions of a thicker than average frontal skull plate. This gives them a distinct appearance compared to other civilized races. Average heights are over 6’ for males but average weights are only just over 100lbs, due to the harsh, water-poor environment Dorjin typically live in. Males have long hair usually kept under a turban when travelling, beards and moustaches are also common. Females tend to be slightly shorter and lighter; they keep their hair tied back with metal rings. Both sexes sharpen their teeth to fine points.
Society: Dorjin live in a very harsh environment so tend to be very practical about most day-to-day things. Water is the most precious commodity, above even the herd animals the tribes follow. Tribal warfare is not uncommon and the major cause is water rights. They do however respect the nature of the desert and its other habitants. Dorjin are a passionate people that can focus a lot of energy to any task they undertake. However they can also be impatient and abandon projects that are not completed quickly. Dorjin live in the southern deserts and traditionally follow herd animals on a migration pattern of several thousands of miles from the far southern tip of the continent to the equator. In recent years the cooling temperatures have forced them further north, bringing them into contact with the other Races. Tribes travel the desert from oasis to oasis carrying their Yurts and their possessions with them as they follow their herds.
Relations: Humans – “They are waterfat but have our passion for life and a greedy nature, which we can use to our advantage.”
Elves – “An old people, they seen their glory days long gone. A history of warfare as lead them to this.”
Dwarves – “They build wonderful toys in worship to their god but do not live for him.”
Halflings – “They hold their secrets well.”
Orcs – “A race to be pitied, they have suffered much at the hands of others. This does not excuse their behaviour though.”
Alignment and Religion: Dorjin try to honour the god Brannsar (Community, Fire, Law, Liberation, Protection) by living lives by a strict code but many interpret this to their own ends, especially if travelling among other races.
Adventurers: Young Dorjin often travel to learn of other tribes before rejoining their own. Some come into contact with other races and become enamoured of the adventuring lifestyle.
Dorjin Racial Traits
Abilities: +2 Constitution, +2 Wisdom: Dorjin are well adapted to the harsh conditions of desert life in body and mind
Size: Medium: As Medium creatures, Dorjin have no special bonuses or penalties due to their size.
Movement: Dorjin base land speed is 30 feet.
Desert Natives: +2 racial bonus to Ride and Survival skills and to all saving throws against poison, spells, and spell-like abilities.
Low-Light Vision: Dorjin can see twice as far as humans in conditions of dim light.
Walk Without Rhythm: Dorjin can move through difficult terrain at their normal speed while within a desert. Magically altered terrain affects them normally.
Weapon Familiarity: Dorjin are proficient with scimitars and shortbows (including composite shortbows).
